The event is a response to growing global economic challenges and changes in trade policies around the world, which have a direct impact on the activities of businesses and national economies. Experts will take a detailed look at anti-dumping issues, protectionism, and strategies for protecting competitiveness, which are key to maintaining stability and growth in a changing international environment. The webinar will last two hours and will consist of three parts: expert presentations (20 minutes), a moderated debate (40-60 minutes), and a question and answer session.

I. Introduction and expert presentations – part one – 1:00 p.m. – 1:20 p.m.: Prof. Witold Orłowski – Chief Economic Advisor at PwC Poland. Presentation topics: Global economic inequalities and protectionism: How are the rules of the game changing in the international economy? When playing with a dragon, always be alert.

  • The impact of global inequality on the protectionist policies of individual countries.
  • The future of globalization in the face of growing economic nationalism.
  • The role of international financial institutions in shaping economic balance.
  • China’s economic expansion in the 21st century and its impact on global trade rules.
  • China’s trade policy and its impact on World Trade Organization rules.
  • Possible consequences of the US-China trade war and its impact on EU-China trade.

Joanna Redelbach – specialist in international trade law, Van Bael & Bellis, Brussels. Topics: European Union trade protection policy: anti-dumping measures as a key element in protecting the competitiveness of European companies.

Issues:

  • EU legal measures to combat unfair trade competition from third countries. What are anti-dumping measures and when can they be used?
  • Overview of the latest trends and anti-dumping cases in the European Union.
  • The role of Polish companies in recent anti-dumping cases.
  • Anti-dumping measures as an effective tool in the arsenal of Polish companies to combat unfair competition.
  • The advisory role of lawyers in shaping the anti-dumping policy of companies.

II. Moderated debate – part two, 1:20 p.m. – 2:20 p.m.

The presentations will be followed by a moderated debate led by Krzysztof Adam Kowalczyk, editor of the economic section of Dziennik Rzeczpospolita. In addition to Prof. Witold Orłowski and Joanna Redelbach, the debate will be attended by: Jarosław Michniuk, CEO of Paged, who will discuss the practical aspects of introducing anti-dumping strategies in industrial companies, and Damian Olko, Vice-President of TEP, who will present the economic and legal aspects of applying market protection measures.

The participants will address the following issues:

  • Anti-dumping and protectionism: How to distinguish between objective competitive advantages and unfair competition?
  • Economic costs and benefits of market protection measures (especially anti-dumping).
  • Economies with significant market distortions (e.g., China, Russia) as sources of unfair competition in the EU Single Market: Examples of sectors, practices, and possible remedies.
  • EU and national competition and consumer protection policies: A substitute or complement to market protection measures against dumping?

III. Question and answer session – part three, 2:20 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The last part of the webinar will be an open Q&A session, where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to the panellists, allowing for a deeper understanding of the topics discussed and a direct exchange of views on the most important issues.
